Over the past six months, Blind Golf Victoria (BGV) has been working closely with Blind Sports and Recreation Victoria (BSRV), Valley Sport and Golf Australia to promote golf throughout the north east region of Victoria, thanks to Victorian State Government Together More Active funding. So, when the lovely people at Euroa Golf Club invited BSRV members to a special golf day, it sounded like the perfect opportunity to get out on the course, meet some new people and, of course, have a bit of fun!
Come and Try Blind Golf Day at Euroa
On Sunday, 6 September 2026, I headed off to Euroa for the Come and Try Blind Golf Day. It was a beautiful sunny day in Euroa — a very welcome change after leaving the rain behind in Geelong!
The day was organised by Tegan and Rachel from Blind Sports and Recreation Victoria, together with James Atkin from Blind Golf Victoria. James and his lovely wife Leanne, accompanied by James’ support worker Jenny were kind enough to pick me up and bring me along, It was quite a long drive, but we had plenty to talk about along the way, so the trip seemed to fly by.
We’re going to play Ambrose
When we arrived at Euroa Golf Club, the barbecue was already fired up and it wasn’t long before we were tucking into a delicious lunch. There was a great atmosphere, with everyone chatting, catching up and getting to know one another.
After lunch came the roll call — and then James made an announcement that was new to me. We were going to play Ambrose.
Now, I’d never heard of Ambrose before, but I have to say, I loved it! It’s a team format where everyone gets to contribute, which makes it a great way to play, especially when you’re trying something new.
Great support from a legend
My Ambrose partner was David Blyth, who just happens to be the new President of Blind Golf Victoria and the Masters blind golf champion for 2026. What a privilege! David was incredibly encouraging and certainly knew his way around a golf course, making some amazing shots along the way.
… and two amazing caddies
I was also very lucky to have not one, but two lovely caddies — Roz and Judy. They were fantastic company and helped make the whole experience even more enjoyable.
We spent a couple of hours out on the course, enjoying the sunshine, having plenty of laughs and getting stuck into our game. By the time we headed back, I was tired but very happy.
It was a wonderful day and a fantastic opportunity to visit a new golf club and course. More importantly, I met lots of new people, made new friends and developed some new skills along the way.

It was definitely a day to remember — and I think I’ve discovered that Ambrose and I are going to get along just fine!
